Innovating the oyster industry since 2019.

“the world’s first 3D-printed, closed-loop, oyster-farming tank made from sustainable materials”

Merrymeeting Shellfish Company was created to enhance Maine’s local capacity for shellfish seed production and to protect New England’s aquaculture industry.

Our mission is to cultivate premium quality oysters through the utilization of advanced scientific methods and technology, all the while boosting Maine's ability to produce shellfish seed and safeguarding the region's aquaculture industry. We firmly believe that aquaculture represents the future of food production and we are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of innovation, fostering scientific advancements, and championing sustainability in the realm of fresh food.

Through agreements and awards with the US Department of Energy/ Oakridge National Labs, the University of Maine, and the Maine Technology Institute, Merrymeeting Shellfish Company has designed, fabricated, and operationalized a patent pending, 3D-printed oyster production system, currently installed at the Bath facility. Oyster pods are 3D-printed using lumber scraps and waste.
